BICYCLE TOUR ITINERARY
QUIRINAL HILL
Departing from our office, close to the famous circular room of the Baths of Diocletian, within just a few minutes you will be enraptured by the panorama of Rome visible from the Quirinal hill, in the shadow of the two enormous Imperial ‘Dioscuri’.
trevi FONTAIN
Coming down from the Quirinal hill, you will start to hear the rustling of the waters of the Trevi Fountain, and soon you will be face-to-face with this marvellous example of the art of sculpture. Don't forget to throw a coin in the fountain, thereby ensuring that you will one day return to Rome!
SPANISH STEPS
Another short ride will bring us to the famous Spanish Steps in Piazza di Spagna (which lead up to the Trinità dei Monti church),
at the start of Via dei Condotti and in front of Bernini's Barcaccia fountain the perfect place for a refreshing drink.
VIA MARGUTTA
As we leave the ever-crowded Piazza di Spagna, so beloved of Romantic poets such as Keats and Shelley, and enter into the tranquillity of Via Margutta, you are sure to ask yourself where Rome and its teeming population have disappeared to.
The beauty of Via Margutta the famed ‘Street of Painters’, where Audrey Hepburn sought refuge to change out of her royal attire in Roman Holiday is sure to take your breath away.
PIAZZA DEL POPOLO
Here we are in Piazza del Popolo, where you can pay homage to something older than Rome itself. The 32-metre-high obelisk in front of you actually came from Egypt, where it was first erected a full 33 centuries ago - not exactly yesterday, by anybody's standards!
Close by, the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo (which these days is also well-known as the starting point for Dan Brown's thriller Angels & Demons) will reveal its mysteries to you.
VIA DEL CORSO
Along Via del Corso, the Romans' favourite shopping haunt, you will enter slowly into the heart of Rome, where history will speak to you in the alleyways...always under the protective gaze of the myriad ‘Madonnelle’ watching over you from the walls.
VIa DEI CORONARI - Piazza navona
In Via dei Coronari, which is full of antique shops, you will stop for a refreshing ice cream, before heading on to Via del Governo Vecchio, until you reach Piazza Navona, where the architectural masterpieces of Bernini and Borromini will be sure to stun you.
CAMPO DE'FIORI (Pizza Stop) - PIAZZA FARNESE
If you're still hungry, Campo de’ Fiori, with its historic bakery, is very nearby, so after a great pizza there (try one with mortadella and feel like a native Roman!), you will turn off into Piazza Farnese, where you will see in front of you the French Embassy a masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture.
PANTHEON
The Pantheon, the temple dedicated by the Emperor Hadrian to all of the gods, features the largest and most ancient masonry cupola in the world. Just one look will leave you speechless!
GHETTO
CAPITOLINE HILL
Passing by the Chiesa del Gesù, you will reach the slopes of the Capitoline hill, Rome's most important seat of power, from which you will have a wonderful view over the Roman Forum.
Passing through Piazza Venezia, in front of the majestic Vittoriano the monument erected in honour of Italian unification you will come to Via dei Fori Imperiali, from where you will start to see the Colosseum.
COLOSSEO
You will stop in front of the Colosseum – not only Rome's most famous monument but also one of the seven wonders of the world to admire from below the unrivalled splendour of this ancient amphitheatre, which was the centre of entertainment in Imperial Rome.
You will imagine the screams of the 50,000 spectators, the roars of the lions and the sounds of the clashing swords of the gladiators.
After the Colosseum, Rome will be all yours, and you will feel like an ancient conqueror of the Eternal City. Passing through the picturesque Rione Monti and ancient Suburra districts, you will slowly return to the starting point of this wonderful journey of discovery.
