Personal data
D.Lgs. 196/2003 disciplines the treatment of personal data. Personal data means any information regarding physical or legal entities or persons, organisations or associations that permits them to be unequivocally identified whether directly or indirectly.
Personal data treatment means any operation carried out with or without the use of electronic data for the gathering, recording, organisation, maintenance, processing, modification, selection, extraction, comparison, use, interconnection, blocking, communication, spreading, cancellation and destruction of data.

Rights of the interested party
Article 7 of D.Lgs. 196/2003 gives the interested party specific rights. In particular the interested party can obtain the confirmation from the owner of the existence or otherwise of his/her/its personal data and that said data is made available to him/her/it in an understandable form. The interested party can also ask to know the origin of the data as well as why and how it is processed; to obtain the cancellation, the transformation into anonymous form or the blocking of the data treated in violation of the law as well as the updating, the rectification or, if there is an interest to do so, the supplementing of the data; to oppose the treatment itself for legitimate reasons.
